As earlier mentioned, African native Courts dealt with customary and criminal cases previously handled by clan elders. As the fight for independence gained momentum, people accused of collaborating with the MauMau were arraigned in this court and charged. Initially, proceedings took place under guidance of British Officers e.g D.O’s, but later the system was left entirely in the hands of the local people.
